Guest Speakers During DEAR
A Week to Drop Everything and Read
DEAR Week at our school was a celebration of stories, imagination, and the love of reading. From Nursery to Grade 7, students immersed themselves in books, exploring new worlds and revisiting old favorites. Each day brought excitement, laughter, and curiosity as students discovered the magic hidden within pages.
Stories That Come Alive
Throughout the week, classrooms transformed into cozy reading corners filled with colorful books, interactive storytelling sessions, and quiet reading nooks. Children engaged deeply with narratives, connecting with characters, and bringing the stories to life through discussion and reflection. The joy of reading was truly contagious!
Interactive Learning Beyond Books
In addition to personal reading time, DEAR Week featured group activities like read-aloud sessions, quizzes, and book discussions. These interactive experiences encouraged students to share ideas, ask questions, and explore different perspectives, strengthening their comprehension and communication skills while making learning fun.
Inspiring Curiosity and Creativity
The week also sparked creativity as students expressed their understanding of stories through drawings, dramatizations, and story maps. By combining reading with art and performance, DEAR Week highlighted how books inspire imagination and enhance critical thinking, ensuring that learning went far beyond the pages.
Celebrating the Love of Reading
As DEAR Week came to a close, students reflected on their reading journeys and shared favorite moments with peers. Though the bell rang to signal the end of the week, the lessons, adventures, and love for stories will continue to echo in their hearts. Reading, after all, is a journey that never truly ends!
