Grade 5 : Design For Change

Introducing the DFC Challenge

Grade 5 students have eagerly taken up the challenge of integrating their PhBL (Project-Based Learning) into the innovative “DFC – Design For Change” framework. This unique approach empowers them to think critically and creatively about real-world issues. Using the FIDS model—Feel, Imagine, Do, Share—they are set to embark on a journey that promotes empathy, innovation, and impactful action.

Feel: Understanding the Issues Around Us

The first step in the DFC model is “Feel,” where students dive deep into understanding the problems that resonate with them. Through discussions, interviews, and observations, they gather insights into issues that affect their community or environment. This process helps them develop a strong emotional connection to their chosen cause, fostering empathy and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Imagine: Crafting Creative Solutions

Once the students have identified and understood their chosen issues, the next step is to “Imagine” possible solutions. This stage encourages them to brainstorm and think outside the box, coming up with innovative ideas that could address the problem effectively. Collaborating in teams, they share their perspectives and refine their ideas, learning the value of teamwork and diverse thinking in the process.

Do and Share: Taking Action and Spreading the Word

The final phases, “Do” and “Share,” involve turning ideas into action and communicating their journey and impact. Students implement their solutions, often engaging in hands-on activities or community projects that bring their ideas to life. They then reflect on their experiences and share their stories with peers and the broader community, inspiring others to join the movement and create a ripple effect of positive change.
